Maple the squirrel was in the garden. The garden was full of tall grass and bugs. Maple liked to dig for grubs. She was a very clever squirrel.

One morn, Maple got a card. The card was from her friend, a bird. "I am having a dinner," the card said. "It is for all the birds and squirrels in the garden." Maple was so happy.

But then she had a problem. What should she bring to the dinner? She looked for a fig, but there were no figs. She looked for a grape, but there were no grapes. "What can I bring?" she said.

Maple looked in the grass. She saw a funny, long, yellow thing. It was a kernel of corn! "What a surprising thing to find!" she said. She picked up the corn kernel. Then she saw another one, and another one!

She got a jar and filled it with corn. The jar was full. She worked hard to fill the jar. "This will be a good gift for the dinner," Maple said.

She went to the dinner in the garden. All the birds were there. "I have corn for the dinner!" Maple said. "What a wonderful gift!" said her friend. All the birds and squirrels had a grand dinner. Maple was happy she could be part of it.
