Trish the black lab sat on the mat. She was a dog with a big ambition. "I will be the best at 'fetch'!" she said. Trish loved to fetch sticks. She held one in her mouth. She had a collection of sticks.

Trish looked at her father. She motioned with her head. Her father tossed the stick. Trish went after it. She had one action in mind. Get the stick! But she slipped on the mat. The mat went up. What a commotion!

Trish slid across the floor. She did not like this motion. The mat was a soft slab. It was not a good foundation for a run. Trish got up. She had an idea.

"My position was all wrong," she said. She moved the mat from the slick floor. She put it on the grass outside. Her father tossed the stick again. Trish ran. She did not slip. She got the stick. Her father clapped. It was like an ovation. "What a good dog!" he said. Trish wagged her tail. Her ambition was complete.

Lucky was a black lab with a lot of ambition. She was good at playing fetch, but she hoped to become the best in the nation. 

She would have to play fetch each day to get better. "I will show off my fetch skills at the black lab convention next month!" Lucky said. 

Lucky mentioned her goal to her pal  Daisy and asked Daisy for help. "Toss me the ball, Daisy, and I will fetch it," she said. She gave Daisy a ball from her collection.

In one swift motion, Daisy tossed the ball for Lucky. The ball did not go very far. Lucky jumped into action and chased after it. She ran back with the ball in her mouth. 

"Thanks, Daisy, but can you throw it a bit farther?" Lucky asked. Daisy tossed the ball again in the same direction, but it did not go much farther. 

Lucky frowned. She needed Daisy to throw the ball farther. She would not get better at fetch at this rate. "I am sorry, Lucky, but that is as far as I can throw," Daisy said. 

Lucky nodded and went to sit by a tree. She motioned for Daisy to sit next to her. "I think I will quit," Lucky told Daisy. "What other option do I have?"

Daisy sat up suddenly, looked at Lucky, and ran off in a different direction. "I wonder what that was about?" Lucky said.

Just then, Daisy came running back. She called Lucky to get her attention.  "Lucky, I have just the thing to help you!" she said.

Daisy showed Lucky her ball launcher.  Lucky ran over happily. "This looks like the best invention, Daisy!" she said.

Daisy grabbed another ball from the collection. She stuck the ball inside the launcher and pressed the button. The ball went flying!

Lucky clapped when she saw how far the ball went. "This tool is perfection!" she said with glee. 

""Thank you, Daisy!" said Lucky to her pal. "I will be the best at fetch in no time!""

Lucky ran off to fetch the ball. Daisy smiled. She was so glad she could help Lucky.
