Patches the dog was on the farm. He grabs a sack. "What is in the sack?" he said. Patches looks in the sacks. He sees seeds and pots. Patches grabs the seeds. He puts the seeds in the pots. He drags the pots to the water. The seeds got water. Soon, Patches will have beets

Have you ever seen a baby animal? A farm is the perfect place to see them. Spring is the best time to visit because many baby animals, like goats, sheep, and pigs, are born then. 

On the farm, you  may see baby goats. A baby goat is called a kid. Kids can stand and walk right after they are born. They love to play! You can watch them jump, hop, and climb.

You may also see lambs. A lamb is a baby sheep. They are born in the spring. Lambs have soft, fluffy wool. A lamb drinks milk from its mom. After about six weeks, it can eat grass too.

Pigs are born in the spring, too. Baby pigs are called piglets. Mother pigs have about ten piglets at once. Newborn piglets are very small. They weigh about two pounds and need to rest and sleep a lot.

Some farms also have baby birds like chicks and ducklings. You might see a duckling as it splashes in the pond, or a chick as it scratches and pecks the ground to find seeds, bugs and worms. 

Farmers have a lot of work to do in the spring to get the farm ready for all these new animals. They fix barns and pens so the baby animals have a safe place to live. They also stock up on food and fresh water for the moms to eat and drink. 

Some farms will let you feed and pet the animals. The farmer will let you know what you can feed them and how you can pet them. You must follow the rules of the farm to keep both you and the animals safe. 

Farms in the spring are full of new life. Tiny piglets wiggle in the straw. Fluffy chicks peep and follow their mother. Soft lambs nibble grass. Baby goats hop and play in the sunshine. Every place you look, something new is growing.
