- Vary sentence patterns (simple, compound, and complex)
- Use connecting words and subordinating conjunctions (while, when, as, until, etc.)
- Implement "show, not tell" descriptive techniques, incorporating sensory details (how things feel, sound, look, etc.)
- Use dialogue
- There should be a clear problem and solution

Liz went to find her kin, Ken. "The light is too bright!" she said. Ken had an idea. He went to the shop to get a green hood. "This might fix it," said Ken. Liz put the hood on. It was a slight bit tight, but it did the trick. "Hooray!" said Liz. Now she could sleep all night.

"I might not get to sleep this night," Liz sighed.

He reached high up on the shelf and got a mask.
