- The story should have an interesting plot with a sequence of clearly connected events (do not end the story with "the end")

- Use dialogue
- There should be a clear problem and solution

Cam the dog was late. "I have to race!" said Cam. He played a game with his mates. Cam ran to the gate. He was in a daze from the race. He made it to the plate. "I am safe!" he said. His mates clapped. Cam was a brave dog. He got a big bone.

He looked at the clock. "I am late!" he wailed.

Jake was late for the big game! He did not want to let his teammates down!

Jake grabbed his bag and ran down the driveway.

Jake had to stop at the railway and wait as a train passed.

When the train left, he darted back on the trail and picked up his pace.

At last, he made it to the game and took his place at home plate!
