Pat the bat was glum. He perched on a branch and watched his chums.

The other bats had plenty of skills. They could nab a plum with quickness.

They could lift thick logs. Pat wished he was the fastest or the strongest.

He wanted to help, but he had nothing special to bring to the squad. One day, a thick fog drifted in from the west.

The bats could not see the paths back to their tent. "We are lost!" said a friend.

Pat had a plan. He had the best mind for tracking things.

He flapped his wings and was still. He heard the drip, drip, drip of water from their dock.

"This way!" he whispered.

He led the flock through the misty fog. When they landed, his chums thanked him.

Pat was not the fastest, but he was a very clever bat.
