- Only use 1 syllable words in the story except for skill words, custom words, character, setting, and character name.
- Use dialogue when possible
- Vary sentence patterns (simple, compound, and complex)
- Use connecting words and subordinating conjunctions (while, when, as, until, etc.)
- Use the following story structure: 1-2. Introduce character and set the scene, 3-5. Introduce the problem. 6-7. Provide a bit of detail. 8-10. Solve the problem. 11-12. Wrap things up.

- The story should have an interesting plot with a sequence of clearly connected events (do not end the story with "the end")

Lesson 70 (dge /j/)

UFLI

Midge the hedgehog sat at the edge of a big bridge.  She had a small badge.  "I can’t budge," she said.  A smudge of mud was on the bridge.  Midge did not like the sludge. "I will not trudge in that!" she said.  A midge buzzed by. Then Pam came with a mop and a pail. Pam rubs the sludge. The bridge is safe.  "Now I can go," said Midge. "Thanks, Pam!"  Midge zigs to the top of the bridge.


Midge the hedgehog stands at the edge of her tall fridge. She spots a big glass of milk on the top shelf. 

"How will I get that glass of milk?" Midge asks. 

Midge jumps up to the ledge of one shelf and spots a wedge of cake.

With a nudge, Midge lifts the wedge to the next shelf. 

Then, Midge steps on the wedge like a bridge and hops up to the top shelf. 

On the top shelf she grabs the glass of milk. Midge has a huge gulp. 

Then, Midge grabs the edge of the cake and tugs it up to the top shelf too. 

At last, she has a big bite of fudge cake!
