Ralph the dog sits on the grass.  He has a stick and a ball.  He swings the stick and hits the ball. The ball flies up and lands with a thump.  Ralph asks, "Do you think I can hit it over the tall cliff?" He swings the stick fast and smashes the ball.  It flies high, but lands on a branch of the tall tree.  Ralph is sad.  Then, she sees a long strand hanging from the branch.  Ralph grabs the strand and swings. He swings up to the branch and gets his ball!


Ralph sat on the grass by the cliffs. He held a stick and a ball.

"I bet I can hit this ball past the tall cliffs. Then, I can fetch it!" said Ralph.

Ralph swung the stick and hit the ball with a big thud.

The ball went up, but fell back on the grass.

Ralph got the ball.  He picked up the stick and smashed the ball.

The ball went up and buzzed past the big elm. Then, it hit a branch and fell. The ball was stuck in one of the branches!

He went to sit next to the elm and rest. "I wish I had the ball," he said.

Then, Ralph felt the branches of the elm swish.  He looked up. A chimp was hanging from the top branches. 

"Hi!" said Ralph to the chimp. "The ball is stuck up there. Can you help me?" he asked.

"Yes!" said the chimp as he swung to the next branch to grab the ball. Then, he tossed it to Ralph.

Ralph was glad to have his ball back, but he still wished he could fetch it.

"Hit the ball back to me!" said the chimp. Ralph used the stick to hit the ball back to the chimp.

Then, the chimp tossed the ball. "Fetch!" he yelled.  With a big grin, Ralph ran to fetch the ball!
