Val the Starving Bobcat

Val the bobcat lived close to the cove. She had soft paws and sharp claws.

One morning, Val went to the river to look for some food. "I am starving," she said.

When she got to the river, there were no fish or frogs. It was as if the fish and frogs had vanished! "If I do not get food soon, I will starve," she said.

Val took a dive in the river and held hope that she would spot some food. But it was no use. There was no food in the river.

She was vexed. Val ran past the grove, past the vines and trees, looking for things to munch.

Then she spotted a big stone. Carvings of waves and a paw were on the stone. Val marveled at it.

She pressed the stone. A hole opened under it.

Val went inside the hole, which led to a cave. She felt a shiver but went down the dark cave.

The path ended. She found a box filled with berries, nuts, and grass.

Val ate some of the food, then took some to save in the box.

The box had rescued her from starving, and she felt glad.
