Jude the duckling sat by the pond.  He spied some bugs and reeds.  “I would like to trade some of this fuzz for bugs,” Jude said.  He hopped in the pond and sped to the reeds. The bugs crawled on the reeds. Jude nabbed a bug. He grinned and trotted back to the pond. Jude dusted the fuzz from his bill. He had a bug and no fuzz!


Jude the duckling lived in the pond with his dad. 

Once, Jude found a drum in the sand next to the pond. He picked it up and gave it a bang. 

""That drum is loud!" Dad said. "It is close to bedtime.""

Jude said, "In a bit!" He hit the drum. "Boom!" went the drum. 

Two pals came and joined. They drummed, tapped, clapped, and sang. 

Then, the clouds got dark and the bugs stopped buzzing.

A strong wind blasted the pond, and the drum rolled.

THUD! The drum got stuck in the mud. Jude darted to grab it. 

Sid dashed to help. With Sid, Jude tugged at the drum and got it out of the mud. 

The storm passed. "It is time to rest. Time for bed!" Dad said. 

Jude nodded with a smile and said, "Drums and the band tomorrow."

The two pals hopped home and went to bed.
