Prepping for Mother's Day

Juniper woke up quickly. The sun lit the top of her curls. It was Mother's Day and Gran was coming over.

Juniper was a hard worker and had a plan. She would bake a cake, pick roses, and make a sparkly card for her Gran and her mother.

She looked at the yard and observed birds chirping and the sun shimmering. Her large pup, Wilbur, dug a pit in the mud.

Juniper got a big pan and a jug of milk. She set them on a slab in the kitchen. Mom came in and asked, "Juniper, what are you up to?" Juniper grinned. "It is a secret!" Mom gave a wink and went back to the yard.

First, Juniper mixed the dry parts. Then, she added the wet parts into the batter: milk and egg. Next, Juniper turned the oven dial. But the oven would not work!

Juniper turned the dial one more time. No luck. The oven would not turn on. She sat on the rug. Wilbur wagged and licked her hand. She looked at Wilbur and whispered, "What do I do?"

Just then, she had an idea! She ran to the yard and spotted Gran in the garden. "Gran!" Juniper yelled. "Can you help me bake a cake in the oven in the yard?"

Gran gave a big grin. "Yes Juniper!" Juniper remembered that there was another oven in the yard. It was mostly for pizza, but Juniper was a quick thinker and problem solver. Gran helped set up the oven, and Juniper got the batter.

The cake baked quickly in the hot oven. A gust of wind came and made the smoke swirl. Mom got a whiff. "Yum! What is that?" she called. Juniper grinned.

When the cake was done, Juniper set it on the table. She picked some pink and red roses from the yard. Then, she made a purple sparkly card.

Mom came to the porch and sat on the steps. Wilbur the pup wagged and wagged. Juniper gave Mom and Gran the cake, card, and roses. They hugged Juniper. "Thank you, Juniper! This is wonderful," they whispered.

Juniper smiled and said, "Happy Mother's Day! Thank you for all that you do. I love and admire both of you." The day was full of love.
