Pat climbed quickly and bravely up to the fig. He took a big bite. “Yuck!” Pat said loudly.

The fig was badly scratched and not sweet. Pat sadly climbed down. He was very hungry.

He saw his friend, Beth. Beth had a bag. “What do you have?” Pat asked hopefully.

“Figs!” Beth said. She kindly gave one to Pat.

He ate it slowly and gladly. It was perfectly sweet! “Wow!” said Pat.

“Want to climb up and get more?” Beth asked. “No, thank you,” Pat said.

He was fully happy with his sweet fig. Thanks to his sweet friend Beth, he no longer needed a prickly, scratched fig from the tree.
