- Use dialogue when possible
- Vary sentence patterns (simple, compound, and complex)
- Use connecting words and subordinating conjunctions (while, when, as, until, etc.)
- Use the following story structure: 1-2. Introduce character and set the scene, 3-5. Introduce the problem. 6-7. Provide a bit of detail. 8-10. Solve the problem. 11-12. Wrap things up.

Tank the truck had a flat.  He sank in the mud at the bank.  Sam ran to the truck.  He had lots of skill. Sam can fix the flat. He got his tank and plugs.  Sam put the link on the truck. He gave a wink. The truck did not sink.  Sam yanks the link.  He hops in. Tank the truck and Sam go to the rink.


"I must get help, or I will sink in the mud!" said Tank. 

Jess, a pink bus, sped by. She went to wink at Tank, but Tank did not wink back. 

Then, Jess did yank the belt. Jess got Tank out of the bank!

Jess did help Tank fix the flat. Then, she sped back on the path.
