Unit 5, Lessons 7-10 (Schwa /ə/: ‘a’, ‘e’)

 - Vary sentence structure and composition through a 'show not tell' story style. 
 - Use dialogue and sensory details to support the 'show not tell' style.

Aiden was in the subway. It was a rainy day. He was waiting for the train. "Maybe it will stop raining soon," he thought. Aiden had a bag with crayons and a toy. He looked at the grayish sky. "It's a rainy day," he said to himself. Aiden saw a painting of a rainforest on the wall. "Look at that!" he said, pointing. The train finally came, swaying as it stopped. Aiden got on, feeling okay. He sat next to a man reading about rainforests. They talked about rain and trains. "Do you like the rain?" Aiden asked. "I do," the man replied, smiling. Soon, Aiden's stop came. He waved goodbye and walked away. "I hope it stops raining," he thought. As he left the subway, the sun peeked out.

On a rainy Sunday, Aiden waited on the subway platform for his train. The raindrops splashed him as they hit the archway over the tracks. 

"Maybe it will stop raining by midday," he thought. Aiden planned to take the subway to the park to play with his friend Jayden.

The subway came, swaying to a stop. Aiden got on and sat down. He spotted a painting of a rainforest on the wall of the train. "Look at that!" he said with dismay. 

Aiden daydreamed about what it would be like to live in the rainforest. It was a fun way to entertain himself on his ride.

Then he spotted a man sitting by him. They chatted about the rain. "Do you like the rain?" Aiden asked. "I do," the man said, smiling.

Aiden waited for his stop. He got off the train and waved to the man.

As he left the subway, the rain had stopped and he could see the sunshine. Aiden ran playfully the rest of the way to the park.
