- Only use 1 syllable words in the story except for custom words, character, setting, and character name.
- Repeat words and vary sentence structure slightly.
- The phrases should be sensible to a young, learning, easily confused reader.
- Do not end the story with "the end".

- Use the following story structure: 1-2. Introduce character, 3-5. Introduce the problem. 6-7. Provide a bit of detail. 8-10. Solve the problem. 11-12. Wrap things up.

- Use dialogue when possible
- The story should have an interesting plot with a sequence of clearly connected events (do not end the story with "the end")

Ann is a kind child.  Ann can hold a fish. The fish is cold.  Ann did not scold.  Ann told mom about the fish.  The child can find the fish.  Mom told Ann to find a box.  Do not hold the fish, Ann!  Find the fish, Ann!


Ann is a kind child. She sat with her friend Tim. 

Tim lost his gold bank. Ann did not scold him.

Tim sat up with a jolt. "We can look in  my old desk," he said. The bank was not in the desk. 

""We can fold the quilt,"  Ann told Tim. "The bank could be in your bed.""

Tim got a box from the chest. "Hold the box, Ann. I will lift the lid and check in it." 

The gold bank was in the box! Tim was glad that he had such a kind friend to help him.
