Sam the puffin sat on his bed.  "Why did we come to the tropics?" Sam asked.  "It is too hot to sit on my bed!"  His stepmom, Mildred, was dusting.  "We came for the sun, Sam!" she said.  "Why don't you go play in the sandlot?"  Sam put on his hat and went outside.  He dug a trench in the sand.  "This is fun," he said.  "But I miss my friend, Eric."  He wished Eric was there.  


Sam the puffin sits on his bed. He is upset that it is very hot.

"Why did we come to the tropics?" Sam asks.

"It is too hot to sit on my bed!" says Sam. His stepmom, Mildred, is dusting.

""We came for the sun, Sam!" she says. "It will be very restful.""

"Check out the sand, Sam!" says Mildred. Sam gets on his swim costume and hops out to the sand.

He digs a trench in the sand and splashes in the water.

"This is fun," he says. Next time, Sam will invite his friend, Nicole, to come!
