Varun the fox sat in his den. He looked at the twigs. "I must do my tasks," he said. The den was dim, and he felt a twinge of worry. 

Varun flapped his tail and sniffed the air. "Time to go!" he said, and dashed out. He sped by the vines and trees. 

Varun saw Fred the finch. "What are you doing, Varun?" Fred asked. "I am going to the camp," said Varun. 

Fred nodded, flapping his wings. "I will go too!" he chirped. 

The two friends rushed to the camp. They found a bag full of cakes. "Yum!" said Varun. 

The cakes were sweet and fine. Fred pecked at one. "This is fun," he said with a wink. 

Varun and Fred sat by the fire. They told tales of their day. 

As dusk fell, they went back to the den. Varun felt happy and snug.

Fred was jumping in the big pile of leaves. “I love jumping!" said Fred.


Ann and Beth were sitting. Ann was fussing. She did not want to clean up.


“I do not want to clean," Fred said, puffing. “Jumping is fun!”

Beth blinked, thinking, "What if we made cleaning a game?”



Fred stopped jumping, asking, "What should we do?"



“We can do a leaf jumping game! Then, we will clean by stacking the leaves. We will jump, then stack," Beth said flapping her wings. 



They all were jumping, flapping, and crashing into the pile. 



“This was fun!” Fred said, grinning.



They kept pulling and lifting the leaves into piles.

By the time they were done, it was clean. They had the best time.



“Cleaning was not so bad,” Fred said.






Fred loves jumping in leaves. Cleaning up, however, is not his thing. Can Beth and Ann make tidying up just as fun?
