**How does school/district licensing work?**  
LitLab is a mission-driven organization committed to improving early literacy by building powerful, evidence-backed reading practice tools using the latest AI technologies. In order to sustain our cutting-edge development, we offer an affordable premium membership option for schools and districts.   
LitLab's pricing is meant to be accessible for the vast majority of schools. Pricing is tiered based on school size, and is ~50–70% cheaper than Lexia and other comparable reading practice tools. To learn more (and inquire about discounts), book a demo with our team.

**What does LitLab include?**  
LitLab is an affordable flat-rate per-building annual subscription that includes access to all three LitLab products (powerful AI decodable generators, rigorous student-led practice, and 1,500+ grab-and-go decodables) for all instructional staff and students at your school or district. District and multi-school purchases can claim an additional discount on top of the standard subscription.

**Is there an individual subscription option for teachers?**  
We are former educators ourselves and don't believe in charging teachers directly. We do offer a classroom membership option (at the educator price) if the school or district is purchasing. (See above for pricing.)

**Are there discounts or special programs for early adopters?**  
Yes! We offer discounts for certain school contexts, such as small schools and international schools. Please book a demo to learn more about early adopter programs.

**Can teachers trial LitLab?**  
Absolutely! We're currently offering a limited number of free trials for spring 2026. It's a great way to try out all the features and see how LitLab can make a difference in your classroom. After the trial, teachers will still have access to a limited free version of LitLab, including some of our decodables and the ability to create a limited number of personalized stories.

**How do LitLab’s Decodable Generators compare to ChatGPT and other AI K-12 tools?**  
While ChatGPT (and several other online "decodable generator" tools) can generate simple, beginner-friendly texts, most do **not** structure them according to a systematic phonics scope and sequence. This means their "decodables" are often not truly decodable or suitable for instruction. In general, there are three major shortcomings with ChatGPT and similar tools:  
- *Not Scope-&-Sequence Aware:* True decodable texts follow a structured phonics progression, ensuring students only encounter letter-sound correspondences that have been taught. ChatGPT does not track or enforce a specific phonics sequence.  
- *Inconsistent Phonetic Control:* Proper decodables minimize irregular words and multisyllabic words until students are ready, and they exclude phonetic patterns beyond each student’s instructional level. ChatGPT does not reliably control for these factors.  
- *No Teacher Support:* Decodable texts should help the teacher by identifying which words are not decodable (so they can be pre-taught), which words reinforce the target skill, and by providing related practice exercises. ChatGPT and similar AI tools provide no such support or supplemental materials.

The LitLab platform was built on a **proprietary Scope & Sequence Alignment engine**. This unique system breaks down words into phoneme-grapheme correspondences, and leverages models that respect the progression and rules created by each phonics program, resulting in highly decodable text.

We use student data exclusively for purposes authorized by the student's school, parent, or legal guardian. We do **not** display third-party advertisements to students on the Platform. We strictly prohibit using or disclosing Student Data for targeted marketing, and we do not create profiles of students for advertising purposes. We honor schools’ and parents’ rights to maintain direct control over Student Data.
